Currency: Egyptian Pounds (EGP or LE). 1 Egyptian Pound or LE is 100 piaster. It could also be a good idea to bring either Euro or US dollars. This is that most tourist attractions wants that you pay in US dollars or Euro. Travel Tip: Hold on to your one and five pound notes, they come in handy for tipping which you will be doing a lot of. Baksheesh is a phrase you will come to know well.

Clothes: Loose, light cotton clothing is absolutely essential especially if you are travelling in the summer. Buy some clothes while you are there, it is always fun to shop for something practical in the bazaars. It is a good idea to bring a water bottle with you, sunglasses and eyedrops for the dust when visiting the temples and pyramids.

Visa & Insurance: If you're visiting Egypt, your passport must be valid for at least 6 months. You can get tourist visas from the Egyptian consulate that's nearest to your home. The cost of a visa depends on the type of passport that you hold. It often takes a couple of days to get a visa.
You can also get visa stamps from banking kiosks in the airports at Cairo, Luxor and Hurghada. In fact, it's often a less expensive option. A lot of package tour operators or international hotels will take care of your visa but it's always better to be prepared, you don't need to risk being caught without one. Before travelling, find out in advance if your insurance plan will make payments directly to providers or reimburse you later. Make sure that you are covered in case of emergency aeromedical evacuation to your home or to a hospital in a major city

When to go to Egypt: Generally, most people flock to Egypt in December, January, February, March and April. Cruises on the Nile are very frequent during this period. If you want to find the best deals or avoid the crowds, you must take this into consideration. If you want to visit during the peak season, make sure you book early.The best compromise for an all-Egypt trip is to go in spring (March to May) or in autumn (September to November). In Cairo, skies are overcast and evenings can be chilly in December, January and February.Safaris are often at their busiest in September and November. Make sure you book early if that's when you want to go. During the holy month of Ramadan, working hours are modified  during this period. And at night, life is joyful, streets are decorated with colorful lights.

Drinking Water: Mains water is generally chlorinated and, whilst relatively safe, may cause some mild abdominal upsets. Bottled water is available and is advised for the 1st few weeks of the stay.

Weather: The best time to visit Egypt is October through May. Temperatures vary between 60 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. The nights will be cool but most days are still sunny. If you don't mind swampy temperatures above 100 degrees Fahrenheit and want to save a little money, visit Egypt in the summer.
